Safety Updates: Meet Your Neighborhood Police Officers (NPO)
Downtown Detroit is buzzing with people and the crowds are just beginning. As we prepare for an uptick in visitors in the next few months, we know it is important to stay vigilant and alert during all the fun and action. In this blog post, we offer some safety tips to guide you we celebrate all Detroit has to offer.
DPD Neighborhood Police Officers
One of the Detroit Police Department’s most successful programs is its Neighborhood Police Officers (NPO). These are DPD officers assigned to specific Detroit neighborhoods.
We’d like to introduce you to Downtown Detroit’s three NPOs.
- Sgt. Denise Wallet
- NPO Steven Engebretson
- NPO Jason Briggs
NPOs develop ties with the community and business sector to create a different form of police presence for non-emergency and recurring quality of life issues.
Visit the DPD site to learn more or to contact your NPO.
Remember, if there is an emergency, or someone is in danger, call 9-1-1 immediately.
We also want to remind you of Project LighthouseTM: Downtown Detroit’s Neighborhood Watch. This program, nationally recognized by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, connects Downtown patrons to a network of safety partners who are ready and able to assist 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There are 18 Project LighthouseTM locations where individuals can go for shelter from inclement weather, a safe meeting place for friends and family, to request police assistance, get directions, or use the restroom. Learn more here.
Always remember to stay aware of your surroundings and notice what is happening around you while walking around the community, and if you See Something, Say Something!
