This month the Downtown Detroit Partnership is launching a new campaign called “We Make It Happen.” The DDP’s 100th-anniversary milestone allowed us to showcase the people and programs that have impacted our organization and region for decades, and we want to illustrate how the organization/team continues to serve the Downtown.

We Make It Happen. Four simple words that speak volumes. We make our public spaces come alive; we make events that lift our spirits, strengthen our community, and feed our souls, minds, and bellies. We create paths forward for new initiatives through our fiduciary accountability. We make streets, sidewalks, and public spaces clean; we make it better for businesses to do business. We make it easier to get around when improvements are underway. We make investment happen and we make policy work. We make our Downtown a great place to live, work, and play.

We continue to make all this happen with you, our business partners, public-sector leaders, dedicated nonprofits, and the efforts of the talented and dedicated DDP Team.

We’re launching “We Make it Happen” this week, June 2-4, as the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear returns to the streets of Downtown Detroit. The DDP helps make this happen through our strategic partnership and fiduciary role for the Grand Prix. Our city will welcome visitors from around the world over the race weekend, and DDP will be out there to maintain our public spaces and provide critical assistance and support to visitors and residents alike. Our support of the event starts from well before the green flag until well after the checkered flag are waved.

From there, you’ll see us making things happen all around the city throughout the summer.

As we embark on an outstanding new season of parks programming, we will be improving our parks and public spaces. Some of this directly results from funding received with our partners through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Revitalization and Placemaking (RAP) Program. We helped make that vision happen, and I think you’ll be as excited about these projects as we are.

In April, DDP team members and I had the opportunity to attend the NFL draft in Kansas City. It was a great event and attending gave me even more excitement about hosting in Detroit next year in 2024! Our participation was an excellent opportunity for all the partners planning and executing the NFL Draft in Detroit to ensure a phenomenal event. I can’t wait to see what we put together for football fans worldwide.

We Make It Happen is part of DDP’s story. The story of a team that works tirelessly to bring resources, opportunities, programs, and events to Detroit’s Downtown. But it’s also your story. We Make It Happen iterates on the tenacious Detroit spirit and everyone in it.

We Make It Happen is our past, present, and future. Great cities evolve over time and succeed by embracing change, having a vision and leading the way. This is Detroit.
