Downtown Detroit Partnership and Downtown Detroit BIZ Publish Ninth Annual Community and Development Update
Ninth edition explores how investment is shaping Downtown Detroit as a thriving neighborhood
DETROIT — The Downtown Detroit Partnership (DDP), in collaboration with the Downtown Detroit Business Improvement Zone (BIZ), has published the 2026 Downtown Detroit Community and Development Update. Now in its ninth annual edition, the publication highlights significant commercial, residential, infrastructure, and public space projects in and around Greater Downtown.
This year’s edition examines development through the lens of Downtown as a thriving neighborhood. Downtown serves as a diverse business, residential, connectivity district and global gathering place. DDP and the Downtown BIZ believe its long-term vitality depends on strengthening all these roles together.
The publication also serves as a resource for investors, partners and media to engage and understand the current Downtown Detroit market. By bringing together recently completed projects, active developments and emerging opportunities, it provides context for evaluating potential investments and highlighting the forces shaping Downtown’s growth as a thriving neighborhood.
“Downtown’s progress is about more than the buildings going up or the investments being announced. It is about the sustained success of a neighborhood those investments help create,” said Eric B. Larson, Downtown Detroit Partnership CEO. “When we see Downtown as a neighborhood, we ask broader questions about its future: How do projects connect people to opportunity? How do they support local businesses? How do they make daily life better for the people who currently are, or are considering, calling Downtown and Detroit home?”
The publication brings together recently completed projects, developments underway and emerging opportunities. It provides developers, building owners, planners, and other stakeholders with a resource to understand where investment is occurring and how projects are progressing.
Viewed together, these developments tell a larger story about Downtown’s evolution. Each completed project and proposed investment has the potential to shape daily life by creating homes, supporting businesses, improving access, or making public spaces more welcoming.
“A thriving neighborhood depends on what people experience every day, from the condition of its sidewalks to the businesses and public spaces that bring people together,” said Gina Cavaliere, Chief Community Impact Officer; Executive Director, Downtown BIZ and Rivertown BIZ. “This publication helps connect individual projects to that larger picture.
The joint publication reflects DDP’s and the Downtown BIZ’s intentional work to advance Downtown’s vitality. By documenting development and its relationship to the surrounding community, the update supports informed decisions about the Downtown neighborhood’s future.
