Michigan Avenue and Lafayette Blvd Construction

The City of Detroit has begun construction along Michigan Ave from Cass Ave to Woodward Ave and Lafayette Blvd from Shelby St to Griswold St. The project will include resurfacing of roadways, sidewalk and curb reconstruction, traffic signal upgrades, and new landscaping.

Water main relocation on M-3 (Gratiot Avenue) bridge over the Dequindre Cut 

  • Water main relocation is required prior to removing and replacing the M-3 (Gratiot Avenue) bridge over the Dequindre Cut.
  • Initial stage requires lane closures on the northbound and southbound Gratiot Connector between Russell and Orleans streets.   
  • Starting next month, lane closures will be in place on M-3 between the Gratiot Connector and St. Aubin Street.

Detailed bridge inspections on I-375 and I-75

Weather permitting, MDOT crews will start detailed bridge inspections during off-peak hours along I-375 in downtown Detroit on Monday, Aug. 24. Work will begin daily at 9 a.m. and end by 3 p.m. to avoid rush hour traffic. Impacts on I-375 traffic will include single-lane closures and intermittent ramp closures. Lane closures will be required on freeway overpasses during work hours. Work will not occur on days when the Detroit Tigers are hosting afternoon games at Comerica Park.  

Starting Monday, Aug. 31, work will include inspections on I-75 between Woodward and Mack avenues. Daily single-lane and intermittent ramp closures are scheduled between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. 

These inspections will help ensure continued safe and reliable operations of these structures. All work is expected to be completed prior to the Labor Day holiday weekend. Details on days and locations are available on Mi Drive.

Monroe Streetscape Project
March 2025 – Summer 2026

Closures:

  • Full vehicle closure of Monroe between Randolph and St. Antoine
  • Full vehicle closure of Brush between Lafayette and Macomb through December
  • Full vehicle closure of Beaubien between Lafayette and Macomb through December
  • Intersection closure at Monroe/St. Antoine through July

Reminders:

  • St. Antoine will be converted to two-way traffic during construction
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained
  • On-street parking is available on Lafayette, Fort, Macomb and Beaubien
  • Greektown Casino Parking accessible from I-375 and Macomb

Broadway Lofts Development
October 2024 – Summer 2026

Closure:

  • Closure of westbound Broadway between Gratiot and Grand River


Reminder:

  • Limited sidewalk access on the north side of Broadway

Detroit Tree Lighting | Friday, November 21

Tree Lighting closures began Wednesday, November 19 at 6:00 a.m. Roads will reopen on Saturday, November 22nd at 6:00 a.m.

Closure Locations:

  • Woodward between State and Congress (around Campus Martius Park)

  • Michigan between Woodward and Griswold

  • Fort between Woodward and Griswold

  • Cadillac Square between Woodward and Bates

  • Monroe between Woodward and Farmer

  • Woodward between Congress and Larned (only November 21)

  • Cross streets at Woodward that remain open to East-to-West traffic only will be stop-sign controlled until full closure of the parade route at 5:00 a.m. Thursday
