Downtown Detroit Hotspots – Mary Riegle

As a mom of two teen/preteen girls, I’ll share our favorite places to go when they come Downtown.

My daughters beg me to go shopping Downtown – the atmosphere can’t be beat, especially at the holidays. From the lights to the architecture, they think it’s so cool to go to national stores like Nike and H&M in an urban setting. They also like stores that are uniquely Detroit like City Bird.

We like to meander the streets, parks and alleys in the Downtown.  They love the art in The Belt, the swings on The Woodward Esplanade and the different seasons at Campus Martius Park.  In the summer, they enjoy the oversized games in the park, and in the winter, they skate at the Rink.

No visit Downtown is complete without some nourishment – and we all agree that Mootz pizza has some of the best pizza in the area. Cannelle is another favorite of ours – from their croissants to pastries, it’s a wonderful place to slow down and savor the sweet moments of life.
