On Tuesday, Nov. 18, Downtown Detroit Partnership CEO Eric B. Larson joined representatives from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and five local charities to cut the ribbon for the Giving Machine in Campus Martius Park. Giving Machines are a part of the global Light the World campaign run by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They offer visitors and residents an easy way to support those in need both locally and around the world. Every dollar donated goes directly to a local charity.
“The DDP is honored to host this Giving Machine for a second year to help make this inspiring holiday experience possible for the thousands of visitors who will come through Campus Martius Park during the campaign,” said Larson. “I’m confident that the generosity of Detroiters will make this effort a great success. Every individual act lights the world in very important and meaningful ways.”
The following are the five charities chosen for the 2025 Giving Machine:
Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan
Jewish Family Services of Washtenaw County
Each charity identifies a need, and the user selects what they would like to fund. In 2024, Detroiters donated 2180 items. Since 2017, people have donated nearly $50 million through the Giving Machine initiative.
The Detroit Giving Machine will be available through Dec. 7. A second Michigan Giving Machine is at Great Lakes Crossing in Auburn Hills.
The DDP would love to see the community visiting Detroit’s Giving Machine to spread the word and post your giving on social media.
