10 Years of the Downtown Detroit BIZ

The Downtown Detroit Business Improvement Zone (BIZ) commemorated its 10-year anniversary of creating a clean, safe, and welcoming Downtown made possible through the contributions of Downtown property owners on Thursday, June 20 in the heart of Downtown Detroit – Campus Martius Park.

Launched in 2014, the BIZ Ambassador Program is a pillar of the BIZ and employs a team of nearly 100 Ambassadors, comprised of more than 90% Detroiters. All Ambassadors are trained in mental health first aid, CPR, crowd management, de-escalation and more. These skills are a critical support for both small and large-scale events in the Downtown and ensure everyone enjoys and experiences the vibrancy of the community. The Downtown Detroit BIZ Ambassador program is one of the largest of its kind in the country. The BIZ is led by a volunteer Board of Directors that contracts with the Downtown Detroit Partnership (DDP) to facilitate its day-to-day operations, including the BIZ Ambassadors, hospitality, cleaning, safety, public space maintenance, supplemental lighting and landscaping, and more.

In 2023, the BIZ was unanimously renewed for a second term through 2034. The 10-year anniversary celebration will take place in the award-winning Campus Martius Park, recently voted #1 Public Square in the country via USA Today. Media is invited to attend and capture the excitement of the anniversary celebration and learn about what the next 10-year term holds for the BIZ and the Downtown community.
