At the Downtown Detroit Partnership (DDP), we are dedicated to creating a culture that embraces the uniqueness of individuals and represents Downtown Detroit stakeholders. We actively work to recognize, develop, and promote initiatives towards inclusion, equity, and diversity in our hiring, promotion policies, events, and programming.
To support these efforts, we are partnering with NEW to facilitate a DEI Education and Training Series for the DDP team. Topics have included defining terms like systemic racism, raising awareness around microaggressions in the workplace, and learning skills and tools to interrupt interpersonal and cultural oppression.
DDP leadership shares a vision to empower the team to grow as leaders within our vibrant community. The NEW workshops help us understand that to truly arrive at our shared vision, we must acknowledge how systemic and structural racism has led to the disparities many of us face today. We must understand how racist systems are driving our beliefs, actions, and decisions, and be willing to not only challenge but undo them.
NEW facilitators encouraged our team to explore how stereotypes impact our everyday lives and workplace. They also provided our team with focused questions that invite you to slow down and find alignment between your head and heart before taking action.
The more we listen and educate ourselves, the more respectful we can be of others, so that all feel welcome and have a sense of belonging both at the DDP and in all our stakeholder partnerships and community.
With NEW’s expertise, we have found a partner in facilitating approaches and conversations that are uplifting, improving, and amplifying our work.
