The Downtown Detroit Partnership (DDP) celebrates the life and memory of Lawrence “Larry” Marantette, founding president and CEO of the Greater Downtown Partnership, which later merged into the DDP. He is remembered for helping spearhead many of the developments in Downtown Detroit and being a collaborative problem-solver. Born in Detroit, Marantette’s commitment to our community will undoubtedly live on through his family, including his daughter, Maryann Listman, DDP’s director of governance and policy.
In 2002, he was instrumental in conceptualizing Campus Martius Park and passed the baton to Detroit 300 Conservancy. Over the years, his direction has helped guide many landmark developments throughout Detroit.
“Larry Marantette not only has been a keystone figure in our community; he was deeply involved in many of the things the Downtown Detroit Partnership has been advocating for (during) our 100-year history,” Eric B. Larson said to Crain’s Detroit. “His legacy and impact have not only been felt over many decades, but his impact will continue through his daughter’s work with us.”
As we honor the life and legacy of Larry, we remember his contributions to Detroit’s development, visionary leadership, and collaborative spirit. DDP is proud to carry forward the strong foundation he helped create.
