July Around Downtown: DDP News and Events

July 27, 2023

If you know the Downtown Detroit Partnership (DDP), you know we make great, free events happen around Downtown. From Movie Nights in the D to Cider in the City and from Barbie to Shakespeare, the DDP Parks and Public Spaces Team produces something for everyone.

ICYMI – our Barbie Beach Party turned Campus Martius Park into a sea of pink and was loads of fun for the whole family. Learn more about exciting brand partnerships, Shakespeare in the Park and other upcoming events below, and check out our parks calendar.

Next month, we will host our inaugural Party in the Park, a fundraiser to benefit the public spaces managed by DDP. The event will be held on Thursday, August 3 in Campus Martius Park. Following the incredible response to last summer’s Centennial Celebration, Party in the Park has been added to our Signature Events lineup and will benefit our six award-winning public spaces.

We anticipate Party in the Park will become a “must-attend” summer fundraiser, in a similar way that Detroit Aglow is our official winter fundraiser that kicks off the holiday season.

Our city has a lot to celebrate this summer. Not only is it the 20th anniversary of Campus Martius Park, we also celebrate the city’s continued turnaround 10 years post-bankruptcy. We saw many major events bring a lot of visitors Downtown like the Taylor Swift, Beyonce, and Ed Sheeran concerts.

DDP’s Downtown Street Eats food truck program, evening fitness classes, and Night Markets have brought an increase in visitors to DDP-managed parks in Downtown Detroit. The number of visitors to Campus Martius Park and Cadillac Squarefrom January to June, is up 42-percent over the same period last year and up 50-percent over the same period in 2021.

Let’s work together to keep the numbers climbing. Continue reading to find out about other exciting happenings throughout the Downtown, and we hope to see you at Party in the Park!

Best,
David Cowan, Chief Public Spaces Officer
