Downtown Detroit’s Award-Winning Parks Set the Stage

for an Unforgettable Summer Season

Hundreds of free events and experiences produced and managed by the Downtown Detroit Partnership bring everyone together with music, culture, fitness and family programming

DETROIT – The Downtown Detroit Partnership today announced its ultimate summer lineup across its award-winning parks and public spaces. Through a mix of diverse entertainment, culture, community and family-friendly experiences, Downtown Detroit’s public spaces continue to serve as vibrant gathering places throughout the summer season.

“Each summer, the parks become one of the most active and visible parts of Downtown Detroit’s daily life,” said David Cowan, Downtown Detroit Partnership’s chief public spaces officer. “The more than 1,200 events and programs planned this season are what keep these spaces consistently alive, from morning fitness classes and lunchtime crowds to evening concerts, movie nights and cultural programming that draw people downtown again and again.

“That kind of steady use is what gives real meaning to public space. It supports nearby restaurants and small businesses, creates reasons for people to stay longer in the city, and helps make Downtown active and safe well beyond traditional peak hours. Just as important, it reflects what Detroiters want from these spaces — simple, accessible, high-quality experiences.”

Since 2000, the Downtown Detroit Partnership—with support from the City of Detroit and the Downtown Detroit BIZ—has helped redefine public spaces and urban placemaking in Downtown Detroit. The organization stewards 18 parks and public spaces across the city, including Campus Martius Park, voted the No. 1 public square in the U.S. by USA Today’s 10Best; Cadillac Square; Capitol Park; Grand Circus Park; Beacon Park; Paradise Valley Park and Plaza; and more. Welcoming more than 5.5 million visitors annually through year-round programming and events that set the standard for urban revitalization and celebrate Detroit’s diversity and creative energy, making Downtown Detroit the ultimate destination for unforgettable experiences and community pride.

“Beacon Park has become a place where our community comes together — to learn, to connect and to enjoy the best of Detroit,” said Rodney Cole, DTE Foundation president. “From free programming to environmental learning opportunities, it reflects what’s possible when we invest in spaces that are welcoming, accessible and help strengthen downtown as a destination for everyone.”

The following is a preview of some of the offerings planned in the parks this summer.
