Digital Information Kiosks Aim to Create a More Connected City for All Detroiters

DETROIT (December 11, 2023) — The Downtown Detroit Partnership (DDP), in collaboration with the City of Detroit and technology partner IKE Smart City, recently unveiled four new Digital Information Kiosks in the Jefferson-Chalmers, Midtown, Southwest Detroit, and Corktown neighborhoods.

The kiosks, which now total 28 across Downtown Detroit and surrounding neighborhoods, provide real-time community messages including transit and public safety information, business directory, games, free Wi-Fi hot spots, an emergency call button that connects users to 911, and other interactive features like selfie stations.

“Informational kiosks like these are becoming an invaluable tool across many of our neighborhood commercial corridors that are seeing an influx of new shops, restaurants and other services,” said Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan. “They also are a convenient entry point for residents to access a whole range of free education, training and jobs programs available for Detroiters.”

The completion of the new kiosks was celebrated with a progressive ribbon cutting starting at Jefferson-Chalmers. Transportation to each kiosk was provided by the DDP and included a curated neighborhood tour during the commute from City Institute’s Founder and President Jeanette Pierce.

“The Digital Information Kiosks are an innovative and powerful tool that help connect our neighborhoods in a unique way,” said DDP CEO Eric B. Larson. “As we expand on the city’s 24/7 activities, these kiosks will become an invaluable resource to help make our city more accessible to visitors, residents and businesses.”

The newest kiosks were made possible through the support of community partners Jefferson East, Inc., Midtown Detroit, Inc., Southwest Detroit Business Association, and Corktown Business Association.
