Detroit People Mover
Born and raised in the D, I’ve been in downtown Detroit for most of my career. Its constant evolution and growth never cease to amaze me. I work with the media who appreciate good stories, but I really love talking up the district to residents, visitors and students, knowing they will have a great time while discovering more about our city’s rich history, architecture, landmarks and food scene.
You’ve heard it from me: the Detroit People Mover is the quick and convenient way to experience downtown shows, shopping, sights and sports. With free fare in 2025, take as much time around the loop as you like to visit these places, all located steps from one of our 13 stations:
Downtown Detroit Cool Spot: The Guardian Building is one of the most amazing Art Deco skyscrapers in the world where you can tour, grab a bite nearby and pick up souvenirs.
Downtown Detroit Lunch Spots: Detroit is a foodie’s paradise for every palate: try Italian at Mootz, Besa, San Morello or Buddy’s. A sweet or savory southern brunch awaits at Sugah, Please! near our Financial District Station.
Downtown Detroit Experience: When in Motown, performances at Detroit Opera, Music Hall, Little Caesars Arena, The Fillmore and Fox Theatre are destinations for the eyes and ears.
Downtown Detroit Activity: Sports, of course – we’re the only city with all major teams located downtown!
Downtown Detroit Hangout: Step into a good time at Sakazuki Detroit. Next to the Times Square Station, the Wednesday karaoke night features a massive selection of tunes where everyone sings, and an all-night happy hour menu with delicious, Japanese-inspired bites.
Downtown Art Exhibition: Downtown is literally a free museum from renowned creative sites that make the perfect backdrop or social media post. From building murals to The Belt’s artistic alley, and national treasures like the Spirit of Detroit and Joe Louis’ Fist. You can also get up close and personal to photograph the People Mover’s Art in the Stations, which has 18 pieces and six murals that include Pewabic tiles, sculptures, paintings and glass mosaics.
Downtown Detroit Scenery/Outdoor: From bustling Woodward Avenue to Hart Plaza, the activity on Greektown’s Monroe Street to the picturesque sights of the Detroit River and Windsor, Canada from our windows, a 15-minute free ride on the Detroit People Mover shows you the city from an elevated perspective that is both beautiful and rare.
To learn about the unique things to do on any given day, check out our events calendar both online and at any DPM station. Let our digital kiosks tell you the details, then our Detroit People Mover trains will quickly take you to the destinations in minutes! Visit www.thepeoplemover.com.
