I have been a visitor, resident, and worker in Downtown Detroit for over 30 years. My lack of cooking skills means I’m frequenting Downtown restaurants at least once a day. As someone who spends so much time Downtown, it can be hard to pick favorites, and I am always eager to check out all of the new dining and shopping options the area keeps adding to its repertoire.
• Downtown Detroit Restaurant: La Lanterna – Great food at good prices. The weekly chef’s special entrée is always worth a try. A great spot to bring friends for a lively atmosphere and accessible food choices like oven-fired pizzas and pasta dishes.
• Downtown Detroit Bar: The Lone Goat – A clean, comfortable and low-key English pub style bar with a good beer selection and a uniquely British food menu.
• Downtown Detroit Coffee Shop & Bakery: Cannelle – The best coffee and pastries in Detroit. Friendly service and a great atmosphere with a cozy outdoor patio. Their baguette sandwiches are a great on-the-go lunch option.
• Downtown Detroit Lunch Spot: Lunchtime Global – Large selection of unique soups, salads and sandwiches of every variety. Great value and always fast service.
• Downtown Detroit Activity: Tigers’ games & The Rink at Campus Martius Park – There’s fun Downtown in every season.
• Downtown Detroit Scenery/Outdoor: Campus Martius Park area – There’s no place better to take in the bustle of Downtown activity than swinging through Campus Martius Park. Whether it’s the holiday lights of the winter season or the beautiful landscape designs of the summer, this park is always a nice place to take in the city.
