DDP CEO Note – August 10

At a team meeting last week, DDP Parks Senior Manager Laura Dean said, “If anyone has been thinking about taking in some of our incredible events this summer, they need to stop putting it off and do it NOW.” She could not be more right!

Last week I was in Nashville to compare successes with the Nashville Downtown PartnershipNashville Sports Council and Music City Grand Prix. I am grateful for the hospitality . . . that town knows how to throw an event! But while intrigued with all they do really well, I was struck by the quality of public spaces in the downtown. This is not to take anything away from what is an amazing town with events and activities galore. However, when compared to Detroit, their parks just can’t hold a note 😊 My entire time away, I was reminded of how amazing the Michigan summers are and what a treasure our Downtown parks have become.

So if you have not been or just want to come again, the Summer in the Parks program culminates with our spectacular Beacon Park end-of-summer concert. Before then, grab a co-worker or get the family together (and bring the dog) and enjoy movies under the stars, beach parties, fitness fun, food trucks and so much more.

It can be hard to keep track of all the fabulous events and places to eat, meet and shop in Detroit. To help, we’re launching a new feature: “Out and About in the D.” Kicking this off, I had fun curating a few of my favorites.

Watch this space as we continue to feature other favorites from our team, stakeholders and local insiders.
See you in the parks.
