Celebrating the 39th Annual Detroit Aglow

The Downtown Detroit Partnership’s (DDP) premiere fundraising and networking event, Detroit Aglow, once again kicked off the holiday season on November 20. For the first time, the event was held at Eastern Market. In its 39th year, this event convened hundreds of thought leaders and change-makers from the civic, corporate and community sectors. 

The DDP proudly produces both Detroit Aglow and Detroit Tree Lighting, as the official kick-off to the holiday season every November. 

The program opened with remarks from DDP Chair, Cindy Pasky; Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and DDP CEO Eric B. Larson. Each touted about the exciting growth and buzz happening in the Downtown throughout this year. The program concluded with an incredible invocation by Downtown Detroit Partnership Executive Committee Member Edgar Vann II, senior pastor of Second Ebenezer Church.

“DDP leads the way in our city, bringing people together in a phenomenal way,” said Tony Michaels, president and CEO of The Parade Company.

Several public officials were in attendance, some of whom included: Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan; Detroit City Council President Mary Sheffield; Detroit Council Pro Tem James Tate, Detroit Council Members: Latisha Johnson; Gabriela Santiego-Romero; Mary Waters; Coleman Young II and Fred Durhal III; Detroit Police Chief James White; Detroit Board of Police Commissioners, Lisa Carter; Detroit Fire Commissioner Charles Simms; Detroit City County Clerk, Janice Winfrey; Detroit Wayne County Executive, Warren Evans; Wayne County Sheriff Raphael Washington; Wayne County Commissioner Chair, Alisha Bell; Michigan Secretary of the State, Joceyln Benson; Michigan Supreme Court Justice Richard Bernstein; Michigan Senator Roger Victory; Michigan State Representative, Tyrone Carter; Michigan Congresswoman Debbie Dingell; Michigan Congressman Shri Thanedar

“They’re [DDP] so inclusive, they try to involve everybody into everything that they do,” said Gary Brown, director of Detroit Water and Sewer Department. 

The Detroit Aglow fundraiser support the ongoing improvements of helping to grow Downtown Detroit as a safe, vibrant and welcoming environment for all to enjoy.  

This year’s Aglow sponsors included: DTE Energy Foundation, Bedrock, Forte Belenger Continental, Henry Ford Health, MGM Grand Detroit, MONDO Unlimited, Verizon, Wana Brands Foundation, Wayne State University and W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
