It’s a rare feat for any business to reach its 100th year, and this week, one of Detroit’s beloved institutions hit that incredible milestone. The Downtown Detroit Partnership (DDP) was honored to take part in DDP Member Simmons & Clark Jewelers’ centennial celebration on October 30.
DDP CEO Eric B. Larson joined Simmons & Clark owner Michael Simmons; Detroit Deputy Mayor Melia Howard; Detroit City Councilman Fred Durhal III; Detroit Branch NAACP President, Rev. Wendell Anthony; and Detroit City Councilwoman Gabriela Santiago-Romero for a special ceremony held inside the historic storefront, the very same location the business has proudly called home since 1925.
The jeweler is among one of seven existing legacy businesses that have reached the 100-year threshold. It is the only retailer in the bunch.
To commemorate the momentous milestone, Larson presented Michael Simmons with the DDP’s inaugural 100-year framed recognition. Simmons also received several recognitions from state and city officials.
For a full century, Simmons & Clark has embodied the heart of Detroit entrepreneurship that is family-owned, community-focused, and dedicated to quality. Generations of Detroiters have turned to the store not only for fine jewelry, but for a touch of elegance that’s remained both timeless and accessible.
The DDP celebrates this remarkable achievement and the enduring spirit that has kept Simmons & Clark shining bright in the heart of downtown for ten decades.
Happy 100th Birthday, Simmons & Clark, here’s to the next hundred years of excellence!
