Campus Martius Park to Get a Little Bit Magical with “It’s Midnight Somewhere: ‘Practical Magic’ Witches Night Out”
Pop-up event and special screening coming Sept. 2
DETROIT – Downtown Detroit’s Campus Martius Park is about to get a little witchy. In celebration of the upcoming nationwide release of “Practical Magic 2” on Sept. 10, Warner Bros. Pictures and the Downtown Detroit Partnership will host a free “It’s Midnight Somewhere: ‘Practical Magic’ Witches Night Out” at Campus Martius Park on Wednesday, Sept. 2.
Inspired by the beloved 1998 film, the event invites friends to embrace their inner witch with a little “Moonlit Magic” of their own. The festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. with an “It’s Midnight Somewhere” pop-up featuring “Practical Magic 2” giveaways, themed photo opportunities, tarot card readings, local vendors and a make-and-take activity.
At 7:30 p.m., the fun continues with a special “Movie Nights in the D” screening of the original “Practical Magic” starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as sisters and witches Sally and Gillian Owens, whose family history is filled with magic, love and a generations-old curse.
“Grab your friends and join us for a night of magic, fun and a little something different in the heart of Downtown Detroit,” said Soula Burns, vice president of fund development and partnerships for the Downtown Detroit Partnership. “’Practical Magic’ Witches Night Out is a unique way to experience Campus Martius Park and celebrate a movie so many of us love.”
Guests are encouraged to dress in their “Moonlit Magic” best, from classic witch to moonlit mystic or full Owens-family glamour. Those who dress for the occasion will have the chance to win prizes, while the first 100 guests will receive special event goodies.
Of course, no “Practical Magic” celebration would be complete without Midnight Margaritas. Guests 21 and older can visit BrisaBar to purchase the signature cocktail, a nod to one of the original film’s most memorable moments.
From tarot cards and themed photo ops to local vendors, hands-on activities and the outdoor movie on the big screen at Campus Martius Park, the evening offers a little something for every member of the coven.
“It’s Midnight Somewhere: ‘Practical Magic’ Witches Night Out” is free and open to the public. In the event of a rainout, the event will be rescheduled for Thursday, Sept. 3.
