Campus Martius Park Named 2023 Top Public Square by USA Today 10Best

DETROIT – The Downtown Detroit Partnership (DDP) today announced Campus Martius Park has been named the Top Public Square in the country by USA Today’s 10Best Reader’ Choice 2023 awards.

Campus Martius Park is a national and international destination that welcomes more than 4.2 million annual visitors. This is the third consecutive year it has been named among the “Top Public Square” by USA Today – taking the top spot this year.

“To be voted the best public square in the country not only sends a message that Detroit is a celebrated and important destination, but also reinforces what we’ve known all along – that the history, culture, talent, and leadership in Detroit has made spaces like Campus Martius Park truly exceptional.”  David Cowan, Chief Public Spaces Officer at the Downtown Detroit Partnership.

DDP’s Downtown Detroit parks and public spaces were recognized as world-class venues, including Cadillac Square, Beacon Park, Capitol Park and Grand Circus Park.  Home to events such as Detroit’s Annual Tree Lighting presented by the DTE Foundation, the Detroit Free Press Marathon, Detroit Jazz Festival, The Rink at Campus Martius Park presented by Visit Detroit as well as securing major future events such as the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear, the 2024 NFL Draft and the 2027 NCAA Final Four.

Campus Martius Park has won countless awards for public space design, management, operations, placemaking and programming over the years. Located in the heart of Downtown, this famous park was created in 2003 at the site of Detroit’s point of origin located at 0 miles, where the vision for the city’s plan was originally laid out by Augustus Woodward in 1805.

Nominees for 10Best are submitted by a panel of experts. 10Best editors narrow the field to select the final set of nominees for the Readers’ Choice Awards. Readers are then permitted to vote once per category, per day.
