2023 End of Year Note

Share this:

It’s hard to believe that this is our last newsletter of the year, but what a year 2023 has been. This month seemed an excellent opportunity to celebrate how vital Downtown is to Detroit and how vital the DDP is to Downtown.

Downtown Detroit generates over 42 percent of the city’s general fund. Over a third of all workers in the City of Detroit are Downtown, and over a third of all income taxes are generated Downtown. In 2023, the Downtown saw more than 30 million visitors and over three million in our parks. And, the momentum will continue in April 2024 when Downtown Detroit welcomes the NFL Draft!

The DDP’s programs and initiatives positively impact every business, resident, and visitor.

The DDP has grown as the thought leader in urban innovation; we are taking on important issues such as revising I-375 and improving our public spaces. Our economic development, neighborhood, safety, mental health, and public/private partnerships strengthen the urban core, firmly establishing our value in our second century of making it happen in Downtown Detroit.

Please read this month’s blog to learn more about Downtown’s economic impact and what the DDP accomplished this year to support that impact.

Also in this issue is a great video recap of the year, more DDP news, and some exciting events you should have on your holiday calendar.

I wish our readers a happy, healthy, and safe holiday. We are grateful for your continued support.

Eric B. Larson
