CHALET313 in Campus Martius Park

Chalet313 opened as a result of rethinking seasonal placemaking opportunities and amenities during Campus Martius Park’s winter programming season. For decades, DDP has operated the premier skating rink in the United States according to USA Today, but lacked adequate facilities for winter events and indoor/outdoor food and beverage operations.

Building on best practices for winter activation from across the country and abroad, DDP leveraged a Michigan Economic Development Corporation Revitalization and Placemaking (RAP) grant to install a new 4,000 square foot climatized tent and outdoor patio to house expanded food and beverage operations, programming opportunities, and park revenue-generating sponsorship, leasing, and rental activities through the cold winter months.

The popularity of Chalet313 has led to its continued summer use in support of the Beach at Campus Martius Park when the tent converts to a cabana bar at the center of a sandy outdoor oasis in Downtown Detroit.
