Please join our efforts to build a new off-leash dog park in Capitol Park! When we raise $50,000 by November 19, the MEDC’s Public Spaces, Community Places will match it. Donate HERE.

Capitol Park has become an anchor retail district and residential neighborhood in Downtown Detroit. Recent improvements to the park provide shade trees, benches and tables with umbrellas. The park is imagined as a true urban park that celebrates the historic nature of the park as the site of the first Michigan State Capitol building and a last stop on the Underground Railroad.

In recent years, DDP has convened a group of stakeholders, called the Capitol Park Steering Committee, to help guide the future of Capitol Park. Through this process, acclaimed landscape architecture firm, PUBLIC WORK, developed designs that would restore Capitol Park as an urban oasis for neighborhood residents and visitors. The most recent design includes 32 trees, elegant hedges and pathways, a mister and water table, an off-leash dog park and a beverage kiosk with public restrooms.
